Does the Smart include a Factory Warranty, or Dealer Warranty? Will the warranty be considered valid after the import and conversion procedures, as specified by DOT and EPA? After a Smart™ car is imported from its
European origin and into the U.S. for conversion to DOT and EPA specs,
the original Smart™ manufacturer's warranty is no longer valid. This is
typical for any imported car not sold through the manufacturer's
own dealer franchise. Once a car is modified to meet U.S. highway,
safety, and fuel efficiency standards, the State of California requires
the "dealer" to sell it as a "used" car, even if the vehicle has never been
driven or owned by anyone other than The Defiance Company LLC. Otherwise
stated, the Smart™ cars in our inventory are new in all other respects.
